Getting to know Brobe: Rita Noak - Head Seamstress
Posted on 27 February 2017
When I met Rita it was right after my son was born in 2016. I was nursing a newborn, not getting any sleep, taking care of both a young child and a teenager, while running a business that was growing faster than I could keep up with it. One of my biggest issues was always having enough inventory in stock to keep up with demand. The shower belts were no different. Who knew this little design would have such a big impact. I tried working with a few different seamstresses but the quality and timing of getting the finished products was a challenge. Then, one day, in early Feb 2016 I received an email from an angel. It was a God-send I know it! The email stated, and I'm paraphrasing, she was a Brobe customer and wanted to put it out there that if I ever needed a local seamstress, she was interested. Immediately I contacted her, met her, and just fell in love with her beautiful personality. She is this spunky, funny, lovable, Italian woman who just makes you feel happy whenever she is around. I quickly realized how important making these belts were to her with the attention to detail and quality she puts into every single belt. I love that she feels it in her gut, as I do, in creating these products. She recognizes she is doing something good to help people. She's proud, and I'm blessed to have her in my life and part of the Brobe team.
Here are Rita's words:
When my sister-in-law got breast cancer 3 years ago, I was devastated. I wanted to do something that what would comfort her in her recovery from her mastectomy. A friend of mine told me about Allison and her wonderful products. I immediately ordered a Brobe and a shower belt for my sister-in-law. The next day I got a call from Allison, she said, “it looks like we live in the same zip code, can we bring you your order?" Later that day, Allison’s husband Matt shows up with my beautifully package order. Needless to say I was pretty emotional to have the beautiful items in my hands and the over the top service I received.
During her recovery my sister-in-law wore her Brobe daily and the shower belt 24-hours a day. On our follow-up visits to MD Anderson, she received compliments and questions as to where she got the shower belt.
In 2016 I began looking for work that I could do from home. I made contact with Allison and it turned out she needed someone to make the shower belts. It has been a year now in February that I have been making the shower belts. Every time I sit down at my sewing machines to make the belts, I feel good and blessed to be doing what I do.
I put my heart and a hug into each belt I make and I regularly think how fortunate I am to be a part of Allisons’s team. The creativity and care Allison puts into her designs, customers and products is inspiring.
My sister-in-law is doing well and she regularly thanks me for helping her through her recovery and especially the Brobe and shower belt I bought for her. It gave her softness and comfort to surround herself with as she was going through a difficult time.
