The women you will read about have battled breast cancer. Each woman is eager to share her story with others in hopes of helping someone else through their journey.
My Journey with Breast Cancer
I had annual mammograms faithfully. I am very health conscious, exercising 5 days per week, eating pretty clean, no alcohol, low sugar, and no smoking.
So when I heard the diagnosis, high grade DCIS, needless to say, I was in shock. It involved a large percentage of my breast which required a mastectomy. Research led me to do a double, given the fact many women go thru the second mastectomy down the road.
I pulled up my boot straps and said, "OK, I can do this, I am going to be fine." There is much I didn't know. It's a long process. I wish I had known about the Brobe and the helpful products available! Unfortunately, I suffered needlessly with the lack of proper clothing and assisting aids, like Brobe!
Surgery day arrives. They prepare me by giving me the dye injection for sentinel node locator. It does not filter out of my body, but settles into my skin resulting in a large necrosed area.
Yes, it created a wound that wouldn't heal due to they had to remove as much tissue as they possibly could, there was no tissue left to attach to heal. It was unsightly, black and open. I had two drains that were more than a literal pain to deal with showering -- really could've used that shower belt!
Delayed healing of dye wound pushed my transfer/reconstruction surgery back to February this year. I had to have liposuction to fat graft in which I have very little fat. That was extremely painful and made my recovery slow and long. Because of the pain meds, I had diverticulitis two weeks after my surgery. Needless to say, I was slowed to almost a complete halt! Time heals, it took about 6 months to feel back to normal.
Today, I am so thankful and happy to declare I am cancer free and back to feeling good! I would like to use my experience to help others, helping improve methods of treatments, whether that be sharing about Brobe, giving cancer patients a Brobe gift, or volunteering my time in some way. If I my story is chosen, it would bring me joy to give the gift to another cancer patient!
